We got the idea for this from Jerry Slocum and Jack Botermans "New Book of Puzzles". The puzzle dates from the 1930's and we tried to copy the old design nearly identically as pictured in Jerry's book.
The object of the puzzle is to get all 4 sides to add to 555, the height of the Washington Monument! Each of the cubes will rotate on the internal post.
A great challenge for the math inclined as it is VERY difficult. It might make a good class project from middle school to high school.

A computer analysis by Dick Hess shows there are over 262,000 possible permutations of the cubes. There are only 9 possible solutions.

The block dimensions are perfect for a satisfyingly tricky challenge. It’s a fair copy of the old design and really makes you think. Finally got that solution on my third try.

The laser-cut wood is clean and splinter-free, which I appreciated right out of the box. It took me a good hour to solve, and the historical shape makes it feel more substantial than a generic puzzle block. My only small gripe is that the included instructions could be a bit clearer for the first st
